Boston Cookies
June 24th, 2008
A great new way to get fat is to eat an all natural Boston Cookies Chocolate Chip cookie. Sure, it’s vegan, has zero trans fat and no hydrogenated oil, but just one of these bad boys has:
- 400 calories
- 14 grams of total fat
- 5 grams of saturated fat
- 460 miligrams of sodium
- 26 grams of sugar
This cookie was moist yet crumply and sat in my stomach like a brick holding me down and forcing me to watch bad TV. The chocolate chips are void of tasting like chocolate at all. Enjoy!

Trio
June 14th, 2008Last night, Melissa and I went to Trio, a Thai cuisine BYOB, in the Fairmount section of town that first opened just over 2 years ago. Upon entering Trio, the place looks tiny, as there are only a few tables on the first floor. But the upstairs has ample seating and an outdoor deck as well. It was a gorgeous breezy night, so we sat out on the deck overlooking a very quiet block.
Located at 2624 Brown Street, Trio is far removed from busy Fairmount Avenue, and instills a very relaxing atmosphere. The most expensive dish on the menu is the "Pink Peppercorn Filet Mignon" at $19. Most dishes are very moderate in price. I delved into the "Seafood Hot Pot", which is a medley of baked jumbo shrimp, calamari, scallops, mixed with glass noodles and scallops. Very hearty. Melissa enjoyed a "Baked Atlantic Salmon" with Sake Dijon mustard sauce. And of course, I always get dessert and settled on the Marzipan.
We then proceeded to get a drink at the London Grille, which is a great place to watch the Phillies game, especially when they win 20-2 like last night. Hellzzz, yeah!
Here’s where Trio is in Fairmount:

Sega Master Dork
June 13th, 2008Back in 1987, everyone was getting the 8-bit Nintendo. Of course, I wanted one too, but I decided to get Nintendo’s 8-bit competitor at the time: the Sega Master System.
At the time, Sega hardly had any games at all in comparison to Nintendo, and their marketing & packaging was far inferior than Nintendo’s. In Japan, it was a different story, as they had more games to choose from and seemed to spend more money on advertising.
For example, here’s the American "Alex Kidd In Miracle World" packaging:

Oh, that hypnotic simplistic grid with clip-artish illustration.
And here is the Japanese packaging of the same game:

Much more exciting!
I can’t tell you how many lame hours I spent in grades 7 - 9 playing the 8-bit Sega Master System. But, what could I do? I was a total dork and soon realized that I actually wasn’t going to be the next Mike Schmidt…or even Steve Jeltz for that matter. It really didn’t help with the ladies being holed up in my bedroom, mapping out role-playing games with pen and paper either.

Of course, seeing things like this didn’t help me either.
For all you Sega dorks out there, there’s a YouTube user named talbot1939’s that video tapes himself kicking ass and easily winning several games with ease. Brings back some memories! Here he is conquering the game "Black Belt":

Tooch
June 11th, 2008Santucci, our cat, is most often referred to as "Tooch" for short.
I recently checked out "Tooch" on UrbanDictionary.com and was amazed to see how un-urban I am in knowing the many facets of the word "Tooch".
Here are a few meanings:
- A computer whiz who is proficient at many things, ranging from physical feats back to other various mentally stimulating activities. aka a renaisance man.
- Another word for cooch, vagina, pussy, cunt, twat, snatch or other words for the female genetals.
- A kick ass percussionist and vocalist who is a necessity in any experimental pop band.

I Hate Bank Of America
June 11th, 2008…Not me personally, but somebody does in Fishtown.
The banner below hangs on the side of a house facing the Bank of America on Girard Ave.
If you’re ever been to Canvas Coffee on Girard, head east about a block and then look to your left. You can’t miss it.

No one seems to be sure why someone had this banner created. But the way it is positioned is sure to alarm every BOA customer walking in and out of that place, as well people just passing by. Here is a thread on PhillyBlog.com of people trying to break it down.
Gotta love minimal graphic design and freedom of speech used as revenge.

Happy 35th, Steph!
June 9th, 2008Today is my sister Stephanie’s 35th birthday. My brother-in-law, Tom, organized a surprise b-day party for her in the 99 degree heat. For a moment, I swear that there were more toddlers there than adults, and that they were going to take over as us adults passed out from alcohol in the blazing sun.

Although Steph is just 1 year and 16 days older than me, I clearly look the oldest!

Mmmmmm…cake!

AccuWeather
May 16th, 2008Melissa and I had 2 Devotchka tickets to sell, and we thought that we had a couple of takers, but they both bailed! Melissa surprised me with the tickets one day, but then we got a late invite to a wedding of people near & dear to Melissa, causing us to have to try and sell them online.
So, if you’re on the market of getting married, send out your invitations a little bit sooner than 2 months away from the wedding date!
Tonight, we’re supposed to go see the Phillies vs. Blue Jays, but it’s looking like steady rain. I decided to give AccuWeather.com a shot, as Weather.com seems to be making shit up again. The forecasts truly are different in terms of precipitation.
What really got me is how much this guy loves his job. Check out the video below for the delivery by this meteorologist. I must say, he can really let off some steam at his job, and have loads of fun doing so. Or, maybe he’s just liquored up a bit.

Phillies Phever
May 5th, 2008April was a great month for the Phils, even with J-Roll’s injury and Howard’s miserable slump. This past Friday, we went to see the first game in a series against the Giants. NEVER again will I leave a tie game at the top of the ninth just to beat some traffic and meet up with friends. I missed a 2-run game winning home from Pat Burrell at the bottom of the 10th! Damn’t!
Below is a shot of us checking out the bleacher seats. This is a really cool area to hang out in, right near Ashburn Alley where you can taunt the opposing team’s relief pitchers warming up.

Stray Cat Blues
May 4th, 2008The photo above was taken from my kitchen window. That is a large stray cat that likes to sit on one of our flower pots. He’s actually quite larger than it, but like any good cat, he’s able to force himself into a tight squeeze. This is as close to the cat as we can get though. If we go outside, he runs away through a gap in the fence to the neighbor’s back yard.
Oddly enough, he looks like a much older and obese Santucci, with more orange than white.
