Gemini Wolf At Johnny Brendas

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Gemini Wolf performed at Johnny Brendas this past Friday night for a "Fun Razor" for Nexus Foundation.

The Wolf are back to their duo-based roots, but with loads more effects, sampling, and titillating electronic gadgetry. Below are two clips from the show.

Ghost Tours of Philadelphia

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

My song "First Berries After Hibernation" is used as the eerie soundtrack for a Ghost Tours of Philadelphia commercial. Check out the video above to watch it.

This definitely cracks me up a bit, as my music has always been classified as eerie or "scary", as my Mom likes to call it.

This all reminds me of the upcoming Halloween season, and how lame Halloween is in the city, for the kids trick or treating and trying to scare the crap out of them. Having been raised in Montgomery County, I must say that there is no scarier place for Halloween than a suburb of massive trees and a haunted house that you have to walk through in order to score some Snicker’s Bar loot. In Fishtown, the kids hardly even dress up.

September Studio 27.28 Show

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Carl Franke performing at Studio 27.28

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of performing at Studio 27.28 for the September opening of artists Cassandra Warren and Eric DeJesus. This marked a new genre of performance for me, utilizing a Roland SP-555 sampler to build dynamic samples and to improvise instrumentals. For some reason, my new MacBook crashed twice, which really sucked! But, I’m sure with some tweaks I can get it performing properly next time.

Melissa took some photos of the event as well, of course!

I almost didn’t get to Studio 27.28 that night due to a horrific car accident that Melissa and I witnessed on the drive over. At the intersection of 16th & Broad, we watched in perfect site a Cadillac Escalade come barreling down the WRONG lane of traffic and slam into another SUV in the middle of the intersection! The white Escalade then ricocheted off of the other SUV and crashed into a traffic-light pole. Suddenly, a young looking man got out of the Escalade and ran away down Girard Avenue. The woman in the other SUV, who had what looked like a 2-year-old in the back seat, luckily did not attain any injuries. Then, the traffic light pole came crashing down into the street.

Santucci Goes Outside

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Over the December holidays, Melissa and I got a kitten. His name is Santucci, named after a famous square-sliced pizzeria in Northeast Philadelphia. Melissa’s family order from that pizzeria all the time, and we decided to give him a unique name that we’ve never really heard with a cat or a person. Melissa says Santucci’s is the best pizza, but I’m a Rustica snob for now.

Although he’s an indoor cat, we decided to let him walk around the yard with a leash on. After all, we paid all that money in getting him various shots at the vet, might as well let him hang out back for a bit!

Here he is in action:

We rarely call him "Santucci", and prefer to call him "The Tooch". I’ve also referred to him as "Tooch Master General", "Tooch McGooch" and "El Toocherino". Unfortunately, due to this, he probably has no idea what his name is. To make matters more confusing, I decided to give him a middle name of "Rambo" due to his tough strut and hostile sneak attacks.

Gemini Wolf at World Cafe Live

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Gemini Wolf performed 4 songs last night at the World Cafe Live for Philly Sound Clash. Although they didn’t win the competition, they put on a stellar set. I do believe Mike’s sounds were WAY too low, and you can barely even hear him unfortunately.
